KOTR Konpa Dance Studio stands as a beacon of Haitian culture, passion, and pride in the heart of Miami’s Little Haiti. As the first Haitian-owned and operated dance studio with a sole focus on Konpa, KOTR is more than just a place to learn dance—it’s a cultural institution committed to preserving and promoting the rich, vibrant heritage of Haiti.

A Legacy of Impact and Growth

Over the past 15 years, KOTR Konpa Dance Studio has made a profound impact on the Haitian community, both locally and internationally. We’ve gone from running children’s summer Konpa camps to hosting professional Konpa dance boot camps, molding the next generation of dancers who carry the torch of Haitian culture. Our dancers have graced major stages like Compas Fest, which draws over 20,000 participants annually, and Sumfest, which attracts more than 15,000 attendees each year. Our talent has also been showcased on television platforms such as Telemundo TV, CBS News, and Island TV, bringing Haitian Konpa to a broader audience.

Since 2016, we’ve expanded our influence globally by traveling internationally to host Weekender dance workshops. These workshops not only teach the art of Konpa but also spread awareness about its cultural significance, making Konpa a dance once considered underground now celebrated on many global platforms.

The Vision: Preserving and Elevating Haitian Konpa

At KOTR, our mission is clear: to educate, coach, and preserve the pop-cultural genre of Haiti known as Konpa. We believe in the power of dance as a medium for cultural expression and preservation. With our bold step of opening a dedicated dance studio in the heart of Miami’s Little Haiti, we’ve created a space where the art, history, and culture of Haitian Konpa can be experienced by all.

However, our vision extends beyond just teaching and training. We aim to transform our studio into a cultural hub where tourists visiting the Little Haiti Strip can immerse themselves in the rich legacy of Haitian Konpa. By donating to our cause, you don’t just contribute to a dance studio—you become a partner in preserving a vital piece of Haiti’s history.

The Cultural Significance of Konpa

Konpa—originally spelled Compas—has played a significant role not just in Haiti but across various ethnic communities and cultures. Its rhythmic beats and vibrant dance movements have inspired and guided many, even influencing political movements and cultural exchanges. By supporting KOTR, you’re helping to keep this influential art form alive and thriving, ensuring that its impact continues to be felt for generations to come.
