Meet the Founder
Sony Laventure,
Founder of KOTR ( Konpa on the Rise ) & KOTR Dance Studio, LLC in Miami, FL
Hello again and thank you for your interest in our movement and our Miami dance studio. I’ve been more than blessed to connect with like-minded individuals who are very supportive of the KOTR vision and mission.
I enjoy music of all types and dance styles of all kinds. This is why I’ve made it important to learn these styles during my undergrad years at the University of Florida while it was accessible for learning. From Hip Hop and Ballet to Bangura, Afro, Jazz, Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba, Zouk and yes… KONPA!
With Konpa being a dance style with over 60 years in age, it’s been hard for me to understand why Konpa Dancing is still considered an underground dance on a global scale. That’s why our movement exists… to fill the void in Konpa. We work to bridge the gap between the Konpa Music Industry and the general public.
Through the movement, I’ve become an activist of the dance style and have reached many milestones in the genre via popup, workshops, private bookings, social media, collaborations and our website. After starting the movement since 2011, I’ve now opened the first Haitian Konpa Dance Studio to be Haitian owned and operated in Miami Florida.
KOTR Dance Studio LLC, established and recognized on June 2019.
I’m excited about the relationships we’ve built through our staff, event planners/promoters, college community (HSOs) and few A-List Konpa artists/bands in the Haitian Music Industry. My hope is that you’ll now support and invest in our movement. We can’t do it without you.
