What is Konpa?

For those who have yet to learn Konpa music, we will tell you about this wonderful type of song. Starting in Haiti, Konpa is a dance music and modern méringue that has become popular worldwide. Its fast heartbeat, called “tanbou,” gives it a special beat that has affected not only the Caribbean but also parts of Africa, Portugal, France, and both North and South America.

As Konpa music changes, so does its dance. From the simple two-step dance of long ago to today’s Gouyad and Urban Konpa styles, our dancing school likes mixing noises and actions. KOTR Dance Studio

At the center of this KOTR Dance Studio is our love project. We aim to tell people about Haiti’s pop culture dance, called Haitian Konpa Dancing. Started in 2019 as the first dance studio run by Haitians, KOTR has become a sign of love and hard work for Konpa Dance. It shows how lively this type of music really is.
