Konpa Dance Classes in Broward
Turn your interest in Konpa into time on the dance floor. KOTR Dance Studio offers Haitian Konpa instruction in Broward County, with Friday sessions at Doucé Lounge in Pembroke Pines welcoming dancers from Fort Lauderdale and surrounding communities.
Start with the foundations, develop your partner connection, or work toward more expressive social dancing. Beginners and experienced dancers are welcome.
From Learning the Steps to Enjoying the Music
A Konpa class gives you time to understand the movement, ask questions, and practice with purpose. Our instruction focuses on skills you can continue developing beyond a single combination:
- Timing: Find the beat and keep your movement connected to it.
- Rhythm: Recognize how the music supports your steps.
- Footwork: Practice weight changes and a comfortable movement foundation.
- Partner connection: Communicate through movement while staying attentive to another dancer.
- Leading and following: Explore how movements are initiated and received.
- Musicality: Respond to changes and details in the music.
For returning dancers, revisiting these skills can reveal opportunities to improve control, clarity, and transitions.
When a social follows the workshops, it provides a different experience: time to enjoy the music and practice outside a structured lesson. Check your event listing for the social schedule and admission details.

Haitian Culture at the Heart of the Dance
Konpa belongs to Haiti’s music and social culture. Learning the dance is an opportunity to connect movement with music while appreciating the community and cultural expression around it.
At KOTR, we bring cultural understanding into the learning experience. We want students to recognize the relationship between what they hear, how they move, and how they connect with another person.
You may also encounter the spelling “Kompa” when searching for classes. KOTR uses Konpa in its teaching and cultural work.
Students of all backgrounds are welcome to learn with respect and curiosity.
